Because we have Orginal Series movies as well! Giving us OT3 on an EPIC scale.
This is a really, really beautiful film. Unfortunately it is also a boring one. There’s something off about all the characters as well; they don’t seem to have the charm of the series and the later films. But there is this between Kirk and Spock which is pretty much like “hey, we are totally in love.”
And also Kirk’s “Bones, I need you badly.” Guh. What now?
And McCoy’s outfit distracts me

This film is more like it! Nice, BFF moment between Kirk and McCoy (with more booze! Seriously, dude!) with poor Kirk feeling useless and confiding in McCoy again. Is love.

And of course, you can’t avoid the UTTER HEARTBREAK of this film. Even after repeat (repeat and repeat) viewings it still gives me wobbly lip.

Also not to be forgotten, SPOCK GIVING MCCOY HIS SOUL. *FLAIL*

Then we have the epitome of romantic storylines (even bromantic if you’re not a slasher), in The Search for Spock.
So, Spock and McCoy get married or something here. What do you mean, that’s not what happened?
Also, that first picture; McCoy cracks me up in that scene, swinging between "WHAT DID YOU PUT IN MY HEAD, YOU LITTLE PRICK!" to "But I really love you and don't want to lose you again." (I may have paraphrased that).

Poor Kirk in this film though, has to lose everything to get Spock back; his son, his job, his beautiful, beautiful ship! But he gets Spock back so he’s happy. I love this so much!

And of course there are total BFF moments for Kirk and McCoy too, because it is not a Star Trek film without moments like that.

The One with the Whales (TM). This film was made the year I was born. I can’t believe that the crew of the Enterprise, who I find ridiculously attractive, WHERE THIS OLD THE YEAR I WAS BORN. This is clearly evidence that there is something wrong with me.
Anyway, yes, McCoy is being flirty. Actually, really flirty...like, ‘what was going through your head when you were filming that?’ sort of obvious flirting. Sort of like that bit from ‘Bread and Circuses’.

SHUT UP HATERS, I LIKE THIS FILM. If for no other reason than the fact that it’s all about how much these three men love each other. How can you seriously hate on that? I love this film, even though it isn’t very good and the story of McCoy and his father makes me sick with my own personal grief.
Also, this film proves Captain Kirk > God.

"Please, Captain. Not in front of the Klingons." They did that on purpose to make everyone squee and I love them for it! (Although originally Kirk was meant to just hug him anyway, which would have been EVEN BETTER).

There is so much win in this film, but it's definitely more story led than character led, which doesn't give us as many shippy moments as in other films. I do kinda love the scenes with Kirk and McCoy on Rura Penthe, though. I love McCoy's eyeroll when Kirk kisses the Iman woman. "What is it with you, anyway?" Aww, jealous. Actually, Bill Shatner got to kiss Iman...I'm jealous of him too.

And, alas, no more Original Series. *sigh* *goes back to watch them all over again*

Date: 2010-06-20 09:59 pm (UTC)I was a serious fan. The 90's saw me living at cons. Sadly I never got to see DeForest Kelley. I loved him so much.

Date: 2010-06-20 10:15 pm (UTC)I was brought up on Star Trek, but I didn't get into an actual 'fandom' state of mind until I was 13...in 1999...so yeah, there was heartbreak, I confess.
What I wouldn't give for a time machine.

Date: 2010-06-20 10:17 pm (UTC)Seriously though I always loved McCoy. I can't explain why I found DK so sexy but I did even as a kid. McCoy was just so freakin hot.
I can't really explain it either
Date: 2010-06-20 10:25 pm (UTC)Damn!

Re: I can't really explain it either
Date: 2010-06-20 10:42 pm (UTC)Oh I meant to ask you how you felt about Robbie, Laura and Jean in a semi 3-some fic. If the idea appeals. Let me know and I'll direct you to it.

Date: 2010-06-14 10:26 am (UTC)And SERIOUSLY, McCoy flirting in that scene? I couldn't believe he was being quite that blatant XD
OMG, I KNOW, RIGHT? Whatever he was thinking, I absolutely love him for it.
The Wrath of Khan/Search for Spock story arc is wonderful and is further proof (as if further proof was really needed) that these three guys just can't live without each other. *squee*
Thank you for reminding me why I love these three so much
No problem! I do it for selfish reasons ;)
