I got given a Guinea Pig for my birthday (even though it isn't actually my birthday...hooray for early presents!) He is lovely and his name is Monty.

I made a front cover for my novel, ready to be handed in as part of my Creative Writing module.

I started reading Brave New World by Aldous Huxley. Serious mind-fuckery going on there. I love it of course.

And yesterday I officially started learning Russian. Yay. I'm fed up of being terribly British and only knowing one language and expecting the rest of the world to understand me. The reason I'm learning Russian is that I mean to visit at some point when I have, you know, some money. It also ties in to the long standing, and I mean very long standing, fascination I have with Russia.

Other than those things, life isn't so good at the moment. Still though, I have wonderful people, online and offline to help me through.

P.S, you know, I agonise for ages over which of my fifteen icons to use in my posts. What a loser! I have no idea why I chose this one, other than because I love it.

Brave New World is quite the experience, isn't it?

I'm trying to learn Russian too ^_^ But I'm not patient when it comes to online things and I don't have the means to take any classes, so I imagine my learning will be quite slow.

I'm learning with this special programme by Michel Thomas, in which you basically learn another language in the same way your learned your own, by learning the parts to create your own sentences.

I've completed the first two hours and...well I can speak Russian like a toddler. LOL

What a lovely present! :D Guinea pigs are so adorable. Is it a long-haired one or a short-haired one?

How is the Russian going? I think it'd be an interesting language to learn, but it looks complicated!

Also, hi! I should introduce myself properly, as I just friended you out of the blue. Basically, I saw a post of yours on...I think it was [livejournal.com profile] cox_and_co, followed you to your personal journal and thought you seemed cool. :D Also, we have a fair bit in common besides Sherlock Holmes, e.g. Ealing comedies (my favourite is Kind Hearts And Coronets, and in fact it's my favourite film full stop, although I don't usually tell people that as "it's a black comedy about someone who kills to get on in society, and for revenge" makes people look at you a bit askance!!), Conrad Veidt, Lost, Shakespeare, etc. So yeah, hopefully that explains a bit more about how and why I happened to be adding you!

Guinea Pigs are adorable! He is short haired, but the hair is just crazy and sticks out everywhere.

Russian is going fine. It seems complicated but it is far less complicated than English as it uses less words. For example, they have no 'the' so it makes things a lot simpler.

And finally...OMG I found out who you are!!

Actually, I did check out your profile before I added you back and thought... cool.

Kind Hearts and Coronets is amazing. I love it (although The Ladykillers is my favourite as you may have guessed).

Also, I'm so excited that someone else likes Conrad Veidt!!

a birthday, you say? please inform me of this date! *stomps foot*

and i love that front cover, if it was a published novel i'd be sure to read it (conspiracies?! nazis?! a delicious cover?! score!)

finally, someone else who's learning russian! i've picked up bits and pieces through my mother's rambling, though would love to know more; for example, i can't read cyrillic.

i'm so sorry to hear about things not going so smoothly for you! you can always give me a prod if you want to chat about anything, i wouldn't mind at all, of course.

14 March. I don't usually celebrate it but I think I will this year.

Thank you! Nazis, conspiracies AND a murder! All a book needs.

Russian is amazing! I look forward to being able to read cyrillic and basically just to talk to a person from another country and understand them completely. I just love the way it sounds.

Thanks! You're great!
