I agree heartily with the vast majority of your points--due in no small part to the fact that yes, Colin IS my Lestrade, and NO, I will NOT apologize. But I have troubles with this one:

I think the originals will always have relevance, and that it's important for a true understanding to attempt to approach them from as close to authentic a perspective as possible. Sure, I'll never be a Victorian--and thank goodness for that!--but the closer I can come to it when reading the Canon, the deeper my understanding will be, and therefore, the more insightful and authentic my own interpretations will be. Interpretations are important, but the originals will always retain 100% of the original information, which no interpretation can, and will therefore never lose their relevancy.
